Alen MacWeeney is a Dublin born photographer specializing in portraiture, travel and reportage.

His work is currently a part of the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Art Institute of Chicago, and the Minneapolis Institute of Art, among others, and has appeared in publications such as The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Esquire, and GQ.

MacWeeney also is the author of numerous works of photography. His latest, Irish Travellers, Tinkers No More (New England College Press, Aug. 2007) is the first book to capture the look, the sounds, and the tales of Ireland's legendary nomads, the Travellers.

MacWeeney has been called one of the foremost amateur anthropologists of Traveller culture by Smithsonian magazine. He directed a feature length documentary film Traveller in 2001, which has been broadcast on RTE and the BBC TV. His images of Traveller life were on display at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 2007, and an exhibition of the series was held in September, 2007 at New York's Steven Kasher Gallery.
